An Interview with Mirna Huhoja-Dóczy: Founder of Bits of Brand

As the founder of Bits of Brand, Mirna Huhoja-Doczy created a space where creativity, strategy, and local authenticity collide with global expertise. In this interview, we explore the mind behind Bits of Brand—someone who blends a sharp business sense with a creative spark and believes that the best stories aren’t just told—they’re felt. So, grab a coffee (or something stronger) and stay here for a chat with Mirna.

Q: First, tell us what led you to create Bits of Brand?

Mirna: The journey to starting Bits of Brand wasn’t exactly a straight line. I’ve always enjoyed storytelling but didn’t always see it as a career. After spending some time working with big brands, I realized there was a gap in the market—many businesses were missing that human touch, that deeper connection.

Q: It sounds like there’s a deep personal connection to your work. Does that influence the way you approach marketing and communications?

Mirna: Definitely. Storytelling isn’t just about writing or creating campaigns—it’s about emotion. It’s about making someone feel something. Marketing shouldn’t feel like shouting into a crowd; it should feel like a conversation like you’re sitting across from someone and really connecting.

When you first start, you often hear certain rules that must be followed. But I quickly realized that the brands people love the most aren’t the ones playing it safe but the ones taking risks, showing their personality, and telling real, human stories.

That’s what I aim for with Bits of Brand. I don’t just write ads or plan strategies; I truly dive into my clients’ stories. I want to understand what inspires them, their passion, and what they want the world to know. This way, the message becomes something people don’t just hear—they feel it.

Q: Starting your own agency must have come with challenges. What can you share from your experience?

Mirna: Starting a new business is always tough, especially in the first few weeks or months. I had some experience freelancing before launching Bits of Brand, but it still felt like I was jumping into something new. It’s like trying to juggle a million things and hoping nothing falls. When I started, I was excited but also worried. I knew I had the vision and energy to make it work, but there are definitely days when I question myself—thinking, “Is this going to work? Am I doing the right thing?” It’s a mix of excitement and doubt that everyone starting something new goes through, and it’s no different for me. But then I keep thinking that I have to take every setback as a lesson and every challenge as an opportunity to refine my approach, and the results are worth it.

Q: What do you believe is the most important quality for a business owner, especially when building an agency like yours?

Mirna: Resilience? There will be days when things don’t go as planned—when things fall through or take longer than expected. This is when resilience really matters. You need to get through the tough times, learn from mistakes, and be okay with changing course if you need to. Also, trust in your vision. The world can get loud, and it’s easy to get caught up in what you’re “supposed” to do. But it’s important to stay true to what you believe in. People can tell when you’re being real, which helps you build long-term success.

Q: You’ve worked with different brands, from design awards to startup companies. How do you approach each project uniquely?

Mirna: Every project feels like a blank canvas. What I love about what I do is that every brand has its own story to tell, its own soul. I take the time to really understand a brand’s mission, values, and personality. Then, we build a strategy that matches the brand’s goals and stays true to who they are.

What excites me most is helping brands find their voice, especially when they still don’t know exactly what that voice is. It is so rewarding to watch a brand go from being “just another name” to something people truly connect with. And it never gets old.

You’re Croatian, spent nearly a decade in Hungary, and have worked with international companies and brands. Did this mix of cultures change how you see things?

Mirna: Definitely! Growing up and studying in Croatia gave me a strong sense of who I am and where I come from. But living in Hungary for nine years really opened my eyes to how much you can learn from other cultures. It’s amazing what happens when you step outside your bubble—it changes how you see everything. Working with international companies added another layer. It’s one thing to understand your local market, but when you work globally, you realize how diverse people’s values and communication styles are. Now, I feel like I bring these bits (no pun intended) of local soul and global perspective to everything I do. I know how to appreciate a brand’s origins while making it shine on a bigger stage. It’s like having the best of both worlds.

Q: Does your international experience make it easier or harder to start something in Croatia, especially since you’re still working mostly with international brands?

Mirna: It’s a mix, really. Working with international brands has definitely given me a wider perspective and confidence to handle almost any challenge. But coming back to Croatia feels personal. It feels good to help businesses here find their voice and show the world what they’re about. I want to see more Croatian brands getting recognition on a global stage—that excites me.

At the same time, my current work is still mostly with international clients, which makes sense since that’s where my network is strongest. But I see this as an opportunity. I get to bring everything I’ve learned from working globally back home and use it to build something meaningful here.

Q: Looking ahead, what is your vision for the future of Bits of Brand? What’s next for you?

Mirna: I would love to see Bits of Brand grow into a global agency known for creative solutions and communications strategy—where we help bring local stories to the world. I want to ensure brands doing something important get noticed, no matter where they are.

On a personal level, I also want to focus on supporting other entrepreneurs, especially women who are just starting out. I know how hard it can be to find your way, and if I can help guide someone through that process, it would mean so much to me. It’s really rewarding to share what I’ve learned and be part of someone else’s journey.

Mirna’s journey with Bits of Brand is a blend of heart, hustle, and a whole lot of soul. Through her work, she’s helping brands connect with their audiences and showing the world that success doesn’t come from fitting in—it comes from standing out, staying true, and telling your story authentically.
